Throwback: Shopmade sanding drum on a lathe

This cheap however efficient drum sander is made and used on the lathe. Heart an 18-in. lengthy 4×4 on the lathe and switch a cylinder of 3-1/2-in. dia. Rigorously cut back the diameter of the cylinder till a typical sheet of emery paper wraps across the drum with out hole or overlap. Glue the emery fabric (I used 100-grit) to the drum with disguise glue. Wrap the complete floor with a sash twine and let dry in a single day. Flip down the ends of the drum to about 1-1/2 in. to present free working house. The dimensions of the drum could be scaled up or down for various functions. A smaller open-end drum might simply be made utilizing a screw heart.
