In 1968, legendary architect Alex Riley constructed his personal home overlooking Tomales Bay in Inverness of West Marin. As along with his different initiatives, the 1,000-square-foot home relies on ideas of natural structure, designed in concord with the encircling surroundings. Years later, Riley offered the property and within the early 2000s, designed a main bed room wring and visitor home for the brand new proprietor.
Twenty years later, a brand new shopper bought the property and enlisted Los Angeles design agency Commune to herald the colour, texture, and sample they had been after, adapting the house to their way of life. It’s West Marin goes Scandi, Commune explains, pulling references of Scandinavian summer time homes (and Svenst Tenn patterns to swimsuit) and hyper-local design historical past (JB Blunk, for starters): “choosing up the place Riley left off, honoring his unique particulars.” Commune labored with Upscale Development on the kitchen and bathtub remodels, adjusted and added millwork to all rooms of the home, and utilized limewash to partitions and ceilings. Here’s a tour of the ensuing design.
